Maintaining healthy cartilage
CANIFlex is suitable as a supplement to a balanced diet for all dogs, regardless of age, breed, and size. The Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Hyaluronic Acid, and Collagen in CANIFlex all work together to maintain good and healthy cartilage. Although they are often used as a curative when there is already impaired mobility, preventive use is also recommended. A joint is a connection between two bones, the ends of which are covered with so-called articular cartilage. This cartilage is smooth and somewhat elastic, allowing the joints to

move easily past each other and absorb shocks. Cartilage therefore fulfills a very important function for smooth, pain-free movements. When cartilage decreases in thickness and elasticity, the smooth functioning of the joint is lost, which can lead to the most common joint condition, osteoarthritis. Cartilage consists largely of water, which is held in a strong and elastic network of collagen and proteoglycans. This network ensures that cartilage can absorb shocks and remain flexible. Proteoglycans bind a lot of water and contain long sugars, the so-called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), such as chondroitin sulfate and keratan sulfate. Glucosamine is an important building block of these GAGs and proteoglycans, and therefore plays an essential role in the formation and maintenance of cartilage.

Cartilage contains cartilage cells (chondrocytes) that constantly renew collagen and other cartilage components. Because cartilage has no blood vessels, recovery is slow. In joints, cartilage is nourished by synovial fluid. This fluid contains, among other things, hyaluronic acid, which lubricates the joint and contributes to smooth movement.

Oral supplementation with glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, collagen, and hyaluronic acid can contribute to the maintenance of healthy cartilage. Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate provide building blocks for glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans, which help retain water in the cartilage and thus support its resilience.
